Jane Barnette
With over two decades of experience in the field of theatre and performance studies, Jane is an award-winning teacher and mentor with expertise in the scholarship of teaching and learning. She holds a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and a BS in Theatre & Women’s Studies from Northwestern University.
In the Department of Theatre & Dance at the University of Kansas, Jane teaches classes in theatre history, script analysis, dramaturgy, and popular culture. Her research and pedagogy foreground the intersection of dramaturgy and adaptation—her recent monograph explores Witch characters onstage and onscreen through the lens of adapturgy; forthcoming publications consider dramaturgical intersections with devising as well as musical revisals. In addition to Jane’s work as an academic author, she is also a practicing theatre artist, with expertise in adapting literature for the stage, season planning, directing feminist adaptations, and production/adaptation dramaturgy.
