Jane Barnette

With two decades of experience in the field of theatre history, theory, and criticism, Jane is an award-winning teacher and mentor with expertise in the scholarship of teaching and learning. She holds a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and a BS in Theatre & Women’s Studies from Northwestern University.

In the Department of Theatre & Dance at the University of Kansas, Jane teaches classes in theatre history, script analysis, dramaturgy, and popular culture. Her research queries the intersection of dramaturgy and adaptation—currently, Dr. Barnette is exploring the adapturgy of Witch characters onstage and onscreen. In addition to scholarship, she is also a practicing theatre artist, with specializations in adapting literature for the stage, directing feminist adaptations, and production/adaptation dramaturgy.
